Voters Accept $1.17 Million in State Funds for Highway Repairs
Key Points
- $1,177,356 in state Chapter 90 funds accepted for road maintenance
- Funding is 100% reimbursable by the state with no impact on the local tax levy
- Critical for addressing ongoing town-wide infrastructure and paving needs
Article 14 passed unanimously, allowing the town to accept $1,177,356 in state Chapter 90 funding for the upcoming year. The money is used exclusively for the maintenance and improvement of Marshfield’s roads and bridges.
DPW Superintendent Ken Ryan explained that the town must first appropriate the money before being fully reimbursed by the state. These funds are fully reimbursed by the state, so there's no net cost to the taxpayers,
Ryan told the meeting. The funds are typically used for paving projects, sidewalk repairs, and filling potholes across the town.
The annual acceptance of these funds is a critical component of the town’s infrastructure strategy, particularly as the DPW manages a persistent maintenance backlog. The motion passed by a majority show of hands.
Motion: To appropriate $1,177,356 in anticipation of 100% reimbursement for Chapter 90 highway purposes.
