Key Points

  • Article was advanced early to allow the Veterans Agent to attend training
  • The Veterans Agent Assistant position was upgraded from class 11 to 12 via amendment
  • The change results in no additional cost to the town's overall budget

In the first action of the evening, voters at the Special Town Meeting took up Article 4, which sought to amend the personnel bylaw classifications for full-time exempt and part-time seasonal positions. The article was advanced to the start of the meeting at the request of Veterans Agent Karen Plet to accommodate a training schedule for her staff. During the presentation, Plet moved for an amendment to further increase the grade of the Veterans Agent Assistant from class 11 to class 12.

Plet explained that the funding for the higher classification would be absorbed within the existing operating budget of the veterans' office by transferring funds to the salary line, resulting in no additional cost to the town. As always, we will stay under budget, Plet told the assembly. The Advisory Board noted they had not met to discuss the amendment specifically but offered no opposition. The amendment passed by a majority vote, followed by a final vote on the article as amended.

Motion: The select board moves that the town vote to amend the Marshfield Town Code Division 2 Personnel Chapter 188-11 by amending the existing schedule A full-time "exempt" and schedule B part-time and seasonal positions by making the changes in yellow highlights as printed under article 4 of the October 20, 2025 special town meeting warrant.
