Marshfield Approves Regional Agreement to Add Pembroke to Vocational School District
Key Points
- Amends South Shore Vocational School District agreement to include Pembroke
- Supporters say adding more towns will help spread regional education costs
- The move addresses rising vocational tuition pressures in the town budget
Marshfield has formally approved an amendment to the South Shore Vocational School District agreement, paving the way for the Town of Pembroke to join the regional district. Article 26 was presented as a benefit to the town’s long-term vocational education costs. Scott Swain of the Advisory Board noted that expanding the district to include more communities helps spread fixed costs across a larger base, which he characterized as a net positive for Marshfield.
The vote comes at a time when rising vocational school costs have been identified as a key driver of the town's projected FY27 fiscal shortfall. By amending the regional agreement, Marshfield and other member towns are attempting to stabilize the district’s financial structure. The measure passed with a majority voice vote.
