Marshfield Approves New Revolving Funds for Library, COA, and Town Pier

Key Points

  • New funds established for Library copiers, COA senior programs, and Town Pier maintenance
  • The COA Social Day program was highlighted for its support of seniors with memory issues
  • Departments can now use generated fees to cover program-specific costs directly

Voters approved four separate articles to establish revolving funds for various town departments, streamlining how fees and charges are used to support local programs. Article 9 established a fund for the Ventress Library to use copier fees for supplies; Articles 10 and 11 created funds for the Council on Aging (COA) Lifetime Learners and Social Day programs; and Article 12 established a fund for the Town Pier to use parking and ramp fees for public access maintenance.

The Council on Aging programs received specific praise during the discussion. Resident Peg Davis spoke in high favor of the COA Social Day program, which provides vital services for seniors with memory issues. Jan Martin of the Advisory Board explained that these funds allow departments to directly reinvest the fees they generate into the specific programs that produced them, rather than the funds being diverted to the general fund.

Motion: To establish the revolving funds as set forth in Articles 9, 10, 11, and 12.

Vote: Passed (Individual votes for each article)
